In a commendable effort to promote cleanliness and environmental sustainability, Gian Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology (GJIMT), Mohali, in collaboration with the Mohali Eco Warriors, representing the Municipal Corporation of Mohali, participated in the Indian Swachhata League 2.0 on September 17, 2023. The event, held at Phase 2, Mohali, was a proud initiative aimed at fostering community involvement in maintaining public spaces and reinforcing the importance of hygiene and cleanliness.
The drive was graced by the presence of Smt. Kiran Sharma, Joint Commissioner of Mohali Municipal Corporation, and S. Amrik Singh Somal, Senior Deputy Mayor of Mohali, who extended their full support and encouragement. Their participation highlighted the government’s commitment to the Swachh Bharat Mission and inspired the community to contribute to the nationwide movement.
Organized by the NSS club of GJIMT, the Swachta Abhyan saw active involvement from students, faculty, and local residents, all working together to clean the streets, markets, and public areas of Phase 2. Armed with cleaning tools, gloves, and garbage bags, the volunteers worked tirelessly to collect litter, promote proper waste disposal, and raise awareness about the importance of environmental hygiene.
The collaboration between GJIMT’s NSS Club and the Mohali Eco Warriors demonstrated the power of collective action. This joint effort not only contributed to keeping the city clean but also fostered a strong sense of community responsibility. Participants expressed their pride in contributing to the initiative, seeing it as a vital step toward creating a cleaner, healthier living environment.
Dr. Aneet Bedi, Director of GJIMT, commended the volunteers for their enthusiasm and dedication, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in building a sustainable and eco-conscious society. She remarked that the Swachhata League exemplifies GJIMT’s commitment to social responsibility and active citizenship, encouraging students to be agents of change in their communities.
The Indian Swachhata League 2.0 is part of the larger Swachh Bharat Mission, a national campaign launched to clean India’s streets, roads, and infrastructure. By participating in this movement, GJIMT Mohali continues to strengthen its role as a leader in environmental advocacy and community engagement.
